The meningitis outbreak caused by tainted steroid injections could have been prevented. But since the FDA didn’t utilize its authority for this purpose suitably, over 500 persons were contaminated with this disease and 39 recipients of the injections died.
Tennessee officials turned out to show competence under such circumstances. They were praised by legislators for their decisive actions.

But the FDA’s excuse was not accepted.
Tennessee health officials merit obtaining a gold medal for their actions.
