Belarusian shot putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk applied steroid metenolone

Nadzeya Ostapchuk, a shot putter from Belorussia won the gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games. But she forfeited the medal because she was caught using the anabolic steroid metenolone (methenolone). She was asked to provide two samples. The substance metenolone was found in both urine samples.
If you read steroid scandals, you must know that professional sportspersons and bodybuilders are usually caught using other steroids and/or performance-enhancing drugs. But when it comes to Nadzeya Ostapchuk, she was caught taking metenolone. It is unusual, according to affirmations of anti-doping officers. What does this forbidden drug represent? Why don’t athletes ordinarily use this preparation for enhancement of performance?
Metenolone belongs to anabolic steroids. It possesses slight androgenic properties. It acts like testosterone, increasing muscle mass and adding strength.

Undesirable consequences of Metenolone (Methenolone) depend upon doses which are administered. They are following: water retention, hypercalcaemia, bone growth, hirsutism, acne, hair loss, menstrual problems, enhanced libido, etc.
So, if you see a female athlete that has deep voice and hirsutism, you may accuse her of doping. Actually, it is wrong because these troubles may occur also in those women that don’t apply any steroids. But sometimes these effects manifest that certain women administer medicines which have androgenic properties.
